Description
The Golden Age is a period in the Dutch history that lasted from 1575 – 1675. The Dutch republic experienced a time of great wealth and arts and crafts, like painting, flourished. The picture on this plate is based on the painting The Goldfinch by Carel Fabritius (Middenbeemster, baptised February 27 1622 – Delft, October 12 1654). Fabritius was a Dutch painter of still life and cityscapes. He is considered to be Rembrandt his most talented student. The painting is on display in the Mauritshuis.
