The satirical monkeys on the table runner seem very modern, but are a popular theme that was often seen on Delft blue porcelain four hundred years ago. This was called monkey business. “Monkey business is pulling ridiculous pranks and imitating human behavior,” Janny explains about the design of her Aapjes collection. “The playful monkeys on the kitchen textiles bring a smile to everyone's face. This genre of monkeys in satirical situations was already a popular theme four hundred years ago and we are happy to bring these light-hearted jokers back to the kitchen.” Not only are monkeys a symbol of absurdity, but in Asia these primates have been depicted on porcelain for centuries to represent wisdom and longevity. Thanks to the same shapes, the Aapjes collection can also be nicely combined with the other Sharing Moments collections that focus on lush tulips and the dog Nhaan. Sharing Moments is a collaboration between Janny van der Heijden and Heinen Delfts Blauw. The collection arose from a shared love for Delft blue pottery, design and, above all, functionality.
